Mid-day Sunday, time for our FaceTime with Ali and Matilda. They call us from their living room in Paris. We are being broadcast on the big screen TV, up front and personal. Sam is off stage, technical support available as needed. We’re pretty big, Ali has told us. Matilda is up front and center, now almost 10 months of age, nestled in Ali’s lap. A big smile appears on her face, her left arm waving, then her right arm following. She has recently learned to clap but we’ve only seen video evidence. Peek a boo is her favorite game, Lorie diving off screen then reappearing. Matilda’s body leaning into it. Then the inevitable show of surprise. I’m next as I can tell by her body language, moving her attention and body to lead me into my off-stage position. I can see her waiting expectantly, then feel the joy when I reappear. This goes on for a while, the conversation with Ali a sidelight to the show. We’re preparing for our next visit to Paris, celebrating Christmas and Hannukah. Drew will be joining us, the whole family together for the holidays.
